It has been a little less than a year since we made the move down to Brooklyn, and we’ve spent most of that time hanging in our little neighborhood, venturing out every now and then to lower east side Manhattan to play and see shows! Last Tuesday was our first time going all the way up to Harlem. Oh it seemed so far at first! But as soon as we walked into Silvana, we knew that it would be the first of many times making our way up there. This was a cool spot. Silvana is a middle eastern restaurant, bar, and music venue, with delicious food, cozy seating, and hookah that you can order to your table. It had warm and cozy vibes that kind of reminded us of a venue that used to be around in Ithaca, called The Lost Dog.
When we walked in, a super talented group of musicians, called R.O.T.I, were tearing it up on stage and we immediately found a spot at the bar to enjoy the music that these guys were making. Just when I was thinking to myself, ‘wow these guys are cool,’ a vocal guest, Likwuid, came on stage and to use a quote from Emeril, she ‘kicked it up a notch!’ It was awesome. I definitely had to meet this girl!
The bill that night also included a sweet prog rock band, called theSHIFT, who we highly recommend checking out. They play regularly at Rockwood! And closing the night, a beautiful set by Taylor Rich, who was also the organizer of the event, (and head of Flaca Music!) She performed with guest vocalist and cellist, Kim Vogel. These ladies sang mesmerizing songs with a folky vibe.
After our set, we ordered the lamb shawarma, it was yummy 🙂
