BFF one month

Our latest song BFF has been out for about a month now and I feel so happy with the blog support we’ve gotten!! The reviews of our song have been very uplifting and encouraging.

For a number of reasons, we decided to go the DIY promotion route, like we did with our first EP. Here are two blogs that are helping us get our music out there in the world. Feel free to click the links to see what they said about BFF 🙂

Backseat Mafia

One of the biggest rewards of writing a song is sharing it with others, but this is the part that most bands (including us) struggle with. We grateful for the support that is helping us do what we love!

Here is BFF for anyone who hasn’t had a chance to hear it yet:

Show CANCELLED: Tonight at KungFuNecktie Philly

Well this is the first time something like this has happened to us. We were really excited about playing our first show in philly, but the booker cancelled the event without warning. I guess this is just one of those things that bands have to deal with every now and then. At first I was super bummed, but everything happens for a reason right? We’re going to look ahead to the spring and try to get an even better Philly show then!! So, to all of our Philly friends, we will miss you dearly tonight, but we’ll keep you posted on a future, better, way-more-awesome-than-tonight-would-have-ever-been spring show 🙂

So amped about shows! Next: 12/9 @ Silvana NYC

Okay so it seems lately that all I post about are show announcements! I didn’t even really realize it, but looking over my last few blog posts and tweets, it’s just one show after the next! I guess you can see where my head is at these days. Playing live music. I LOVE it. And December is full of shows that I am super psyched about. How did I go from being someone who was sure that they had some form of paralyzing performance anxiety, to someone who craves playing shows all of the time?! The trick that I realized is this: It’s all about having fun and experiencing each moment 🙂

Next on the list is this Tuesday, Dec 9th, at Silvana in the upper west side NYC. It is a middle eastern restaurant and I’m almost as excited about having dinner as I am about playing. Here is the FB event.

Rockwood Music Hall 10/17

Our last show in NYC was a good two months ago and it is about time to hit the stage here! Come out to our next gig on Friday, October 17 at Rockwood Music Hall 1am. Rock with us because we’ve got some new songs to introduce!

Mandy will also debut some stellar new dance moves.  Think Blue Steel meets Gangnam style with Beyonce like booty action and Este Haim bassface. Is the world ready for this? Be there to find out!

Happy Hour at Hazlitt

Hazlitt Winery on Seneca Lake hosts a happy hour every Friday from 5-8 where folks can sip on delicious wine while enjoying the beautiful view of vineyards, the lake, and live music by local bands. Even though we moved out of Ithaca, I still feel local to the finger lakes region, and I was so happy when we were invited to play the Hazlitt Happy Hour last weekend. We blended a mix of Rungs songs with Diwas’s Nepalese songs and a long list of our favorite covers. It was quite refreshing to play a nice long set. After playing so many of those ‘hurry up and get on stage you have 5 minutes to set up and 30 minutes to play and then you gotta breakdown fast!’ it felt really nice to be able to just keep playing. The happy hour takes place in a large covered outdoor deck called ‘The Oasis’ which houses a bar, seating area, restrooms, and a place for bands to set up. Having grown up in Florida, I couldn’t help but feel like I was on a beach deck that somehow landed in the middle of upstate NY. It was awesome.

Here is a pic our friends caught of us, thanks guys!

Loads of fun

Attention Ithacans! Your new music venue, The Dock, is awesome! Saturday night, Diwas and I joined Gabe Tavares and Lora Pendleton for a Rungs and Sisu Powder The Moon show. Lora opened the night with a lovely surprise solo set. I’ve seen her perform multiple times with PTM, but it was my first time seeing her originals and I absolutely loved them! Her smooth guitar playing paired with her captivating voice inspires a sense of comfort and ease. It makes me want to get in my car and drive across country with the music blasting through my speakers. As a female vocalist I’m always on the lookout for other female vocalists to listen, to learn from, and get inspired by, so this lady is definitely added to my list!

As for Diwas and me, the amount of fun we had at this show, measured in units of loads, was approximately 10 loads of fun, which is a lot!

Thank you to our friends for coming out, it was so great to see everyone and we can’t wait to return to The Dock!

Ithaca’s New Music Venue

About three years ago, one of my favorite places to go to see live music in Ithaca was Castaways. It was a large enough space to accommodate big bands, but at the same time small enough that it never felt empty no matter how small the crowd. I think it might have been the big stage, low ceilings, and lay out including the bar and pool tables opposite the large dance area. It was notorious for being run down, but I liked that about it.

When the venue closed a few years ago, it was a huge loss to the local music scene. Sure, other venues gained new shows, but in my opinion, nothing could quite replace the feeling of seeing live music at Castaways!

Now, the same building is under new ownership, and has just opened as The Dock. With a completely new look and atmosphere, The Dock is beginning to book live music and guess who will be playing there at the of this month.. 🙂
